Our Club was able to acquire, and donate, a new bike to the South St. Paul Library for their Library on Wheels program! This bike will be used to haul bikes to events and around town, for easier access for residents. Thank you South St. Paul Library for all you do for our community!

Our Club volunteered at Feed My Starving Children to pack meals for children all over the world in need. Located in Eagan, this permanent packing site packs multiple times per day, to pack meals for malnourished children in many countries all over the world. Each meal costs about 24 cents, and FMSC relies on volunteer and donor support for the good they do in the community. They even have a text program to make donations! It is hard to imagine not having enough to eat, wondering where your next meal is coming from, or walking many miles to receive a box of food aid from another country. Unfortunately these are realities for all too many people the world over. We learned that 1 in 9 children are suffering from hunger around the world. That's where Feed My Starving Children comes in.
Please consider making a donation to the organization this holiday season, or volunteering with a group of friends to make a positive change in the world. River Heights church in Inver Grove Heights serves meals to anyone who would like a fresh, healthy meal, Monday through Thursday. Due to COVID, the traditional dine-in meal service has changed to a "to-go" style where cars pull up and are handed pre-packed meals to take home. Loaves & Fishes report that community need has increased three-fold since COVID began; that is to say, they have noticed an increase in people coming for a free meal during these hard times. Kiwanis supports children in our community, and what better way than to ensure our kids have a healthy, fresh meal to keep them strong!? Kiwanis recently volunteered to package and serve these "to-go" meals at River Heights Church, along with some other friendly, experienced volunteers. On an average evening during meal service, Loaves & Fishes serves around 150 or so meals to those in need.

Hopefully you've been able to go outside, appreciate nature and take a deep breath and remember that humans are resilient. This year so far has been filled with unpredictability which can leave us feeling like we're not in control. Thankfully, the economy has been slowly reopening and life is returning to 'normal.' The good news is that we are in this together. If you need any help or assistance in any way, please drop us an email: we are here for you! jimwstpaul@aol.com
Just a quick note to wish everyone well and hope everyone is hanging in there and making it through these troubling times.
It is with heavy hearts that our Club has decided to postpone our annual Pancake Breakfast & Silent Auction that was supposed to take place on 5-17. With the current situation with the pandemic it is best to reschedule for a different time. Our aim is to hold this event in the Fall, and will update our website and Facebook page once we have a date nailed down.
Hope everyone is staying well. On Saturday, March 28 Kiwanis will be at the Roseville Bridging location to help build dressers for families in need. --THIS EVEN HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR THE TIME BEING.
Bridging, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the greater Twin Cities, provides donated furniture and household goods to families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. Bridging gives hope – and for many – a leap toward financial stability for the first time. With locations in Roseville and Bloomington, Bridging is driven by volunteers and donations of basic home essential items from the community. Since 1987, Bridging has served nearly 90,000 local Twin Cities households, and reduces landfill space by 10 million pounds each year. If you are interested in making a donation to help purchase dressers that Kiwanis will assemble, please contact Diana at: 952-888-0746 or diana.dalsin@bridging.org. To learn more about Bridging, click the blue button below. Our Kiwanis Club was present at a Thompson Park Activity Center event to recruit new members. We had a great conversation with a few people who wanted to stick around to hear about our club, and were happy to be able to share all the wonderful things we've accomplished as a club so far. If you're interested in learning more about Kiwanis, or would like to join us at a Tuesday lunch meeting, or an evening meeting, please reach out to Jim: 651-230-0084
Thank you to everyone who joined us last night at Noodles & Co for our Kiwanis fundraiser! Noodles & Co was kind enough to allow our group at their location from 4-8PM, and for everyone who ordered their meal at the restaurant, 25% of the proceeds will end up going to our group.
We use these funds for scholarships for local high school seniors who are graduating in the spring. The scholarships will be sent to the college of their choice, to help them get ahead in their college career! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us! If you're interested in making a donation to Kiwanis, to help us fund our scholarships, please reach out to Jim: 651-230-0084. |
